Estio Healthcare Raise Money For Breast Cancer

Article Date: 11-06-2019

This month our managing director, Liz Hall, took part in the Walk The Walk Marathon which raises money and awareness for breast cancer.

“Walk the Walk came into being 21 years ago when just 13 women Power Walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.” – Walk The Walk

The charity is said to be the biggest grant-making organisation for breast cancer in the UK. What this means is that the money raised in Walk The Walk is then distributed between other charities in order to implement the most effective and up to date treatments in the places they’re needed.

We decided to quickly catch up with Liz to get her thoughts on the Marathon:

“Like any good marathon, it was challenging but well worth it. It’s for a great cause and it’s a little bit of fun at the same time. My opinion is that it’s definitely worth getting up, getting out and giving it one hundred percent! The marathon isn’t a race either, you can take it at your own pace, it really is all about the taking part and showing your support.”

A common theme of the Walk The Walk Marathon is that both the men and women who take part can choose to wear a bra in solidarity to those who’re faced with the challenges that breast cancer brings. Walk The Walk describe it best…

“For every challenge that you join, we will send you a bra to decorate. So whether you are taking part in The SunWalk London or The Inca Trail Peru, or whether you’re 13 or 85, you will know you are in the like-minded company of women and men who are prepared to take on a walking challenge in a bra!

Many of the ladies that Walk the Walk would not think about wearing a bikini on the beach let alone a bra in the street, not to mention those that have prosthesis or reconstruction. However, it’s all part of the challenge and with some creative decorating ideas, I have seen even the most reticent ladies rise to the occasion. After all, we have all had the feeling of arriving at a fancy dress party when we couldn’t be bothered to dress up... not fun! If you are having doubts, I suggest you concentrate on your walking and in your final pack, you will receive lots of ideas on decorating your bra and how to cleverly conceal the bits you would rather not show... all is possible and who knows, you may just surprise yourself!”
